4. Safer Recruitment

Tuition To Advance aims to follow safer recruitment practices when selecting tutors. This may include identity checks, qualification checks, interview screening, reference checks, suitability checks and DBS checks where appropriate.

  • Maintain professional boundaries at all times
  • Communicate respectfully with students and parents
  • Use approved lesson platforms and communication channels
  • Avoid private personal communication with students
  • Report safeguarding concerns immediately
  • Never share inappropriate, harmful or unrelated content
  • Never request personal information from students unless necessary for learning

6. Online Lesson Safety

Online lessons should take place in an appropriate learning environment. Students should attend from a suitable room where possible, and parents or carers should be aware that the lesson is taking place.

Tutors and students should use respectful language, suitable backgrounds and professional behaviour during all online lessons.

7. Communication

Communication about bookings, lesson changes and student progress should normally go through Tuition To Advance or the parent/carer. Tutors should not use personal social media accounts to communicate with students.

9. Handling Disclosures

If a student discloses something concerning, tutors should:

  • Listen calmly and take the concern seriously
  • Not promise confidentiality
  • Reassure the student that they have done the right thing by speaking up
  • Avoid asking leading questions
  • Record the concern accurately using the student’s own words where possible
  • Report the concern immediately to Tuition To Advance

10. Confidentiality and Information Sharing

Safeguarding information will be shared only with those who need to know in order to protect the child or young person. Where necessary, concerns may be referred to parents, carers, local safeguarding partners, children’s services or the police.

11. Allegations Against Tutors or Staff

Any allegation or concern about a tutor, staff member or representative of Tuition To Advance will be taken seriously. We may suspend access to tuition services while concerns are reviewed and may refer matters to appropriate safeguarding authorities where required.
